Recorded live at the 2023 Jerusalem Jazz Festival, The Magician captures Hagiga’s first collaboration with trumpeter Dave Douglas, whose music had been an important influence on Alon Farber for many years. Douglas’s energy and imagination transformed the performance, inspiring the album’s title and giving the seven-piece ensemble an unusually spontaneous and expansive sound.
